
Overview of your CBU Accounts
Cape Breton University provides a variety of services digitally that can help you make the most of your experience at CBU. These are facilitated by various accounts, and are your key to accessing CBU's resources as a student, alongside your student ID.
- Although your CBU accounts are different, they are connected to your CBU Email and Student ID.*
- By default, all accounts have the same login, given to you by your advisor, who will contact you prior to your first semester.
- It is recommended you change this password. To find out how, go here.
- You cannot change your email address.

Your CBU Accounts
Email will be your main source of correspondence during your time here at CBU. It is hosted through outlook. Please check it often
Alert is CBU’s emergency mass notification system. This important feature is available to members of the CBU community by invitation only. All staff, faculty and students will be invited to create an account within the system via their CBU email address.
Accommodate allows you to register with the JKC (Jennifer Keeping Centre), request accommodations, connect with note takers, and more!
My Career allows you to access cooperative education (co-op),co-curricular record, employment and volunteer opportunities, and more.
Compass allows you to access self-service functionality related to admissions, registration, tuition, grades, and more.
Moodle is where your professor will host their syallbus, class information, and more.
NovaNet Library will help you find literature and information sources, such as books, journal articiles, films, etc., that will help you learn and review information for your assignments, papers, and essays. It also allows you to loan calculators, laptops, and study spaces for limited time
Network Access grants campus wide WIFI to all students, staff, and faculty of CBU.
PaperCut is where you can check your balance for printing, scanning, and photocopying.
Other CBU Services
Math and Science Centre offers free group and individual tutoring to students.
Writing Centre provides assistance with assignments and the written word.
Registers Office manages your academic record.
IT Help Desk helps the CBU community out with various technical services.
How to Access your Accounts
There are three ways to access your accounts.
Option 1. Access through the links above.
Clicking on any of the orange links in the above section will bring you to the login page of the service.
Option 2. Access through CBU's homepage.
- To login into these websites, navigate to CBU Homepage.
- You will then see a list of the many services you can access through you CBU account:
- Click on any of these websites and enter you CBU account information (see above). Depending on which site you are accessing, the log-in may be slightly diferent. If this is your first time logging into your CBU account, you will have to establish Multifactor Authentication (MFA). To find out more, go here.

I was told to go to my CBU Account/Student Account What website should I access?
This depends on what you are trying to do. If you need to see your courses, programs, and unofficial transcript, pleases see your CBU Student Compass Account.
What exactly is my CBU account?
CBU Account refers to the sum of all the services and account CBU provides you by linking your Student ID and CBU Email.
Can I reset my password for my CBU accounts?
Yes! In fact, it is encouraged that you change this from the original password. You can do this entirely by yourself. There is a detailed instructions on how to do so here.
Is my username my full CBU email?
Generally, your CBU account user name is only the first part of your email (cbu99abc rather than cbu99abc@cbu.ca), however, in certain situations that domain is not appropriately dropped. If you are unable to enter using only the first part of your email, you try using your full domain name.
Is my CBU account where I deposit money?
No. Your CBU account refers to the collective sum of your accounts. Your tuition is paid to your CBU Financial Account.
