Accessing Wi-Fi on Campus

Overview

CBU provides free public Wi-Fi and secure Wi-Fi for students, staff and faculty.

You can access Wi-Fi on campus through CBU-Secure (for students, staff and faculty) and EDURoam (for guests).

Connecting to CBU-Secure

CBU-Secure is the Wi-Fi network intended for students, staff and faculty. It requires you to log in using your CBU email and password.

For Windows Computers

  1. You can access CBU-Secure under your device's internet access when on campus. For Windows, this is in the bottom left corner.
  2. Selecting this will bring up a selection of options. Select the button on the top left-hand corner "🛜."
  3. A list of networks will appear. Select "CBU-Secure."
  4. It will ask you if you want to proceed. You can select "yes," if you are on campus.
  5. You will then be instructed to enter your username (your email) and password (your email's password).
  6. When you log in you should be on the network "CBU-Secure."

Please see the video below for more information.

For Android Devices

For mobile phones, the process is different depending on your operating system.

For iPhones: simply connect as you normally would.

For Androids: when connecting, ensure that EAP method is set to "PEAP," Phase 2 Authentication is set to "MSCHAPV2," and CA certificate is set to "Do Not Validate." Identity is your CBU email, while Password is the password for your CBU email. Leave "Anonymous Identity" blank.

If you are not a student, staff or member of faculty, you can connect to the public Wi-Fi. Go here for more information. Please note that you require a cell-phone to connect to EDURoam.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If I am not a CBU student, staff or faculty member, can I access CBU-secure?

No. CBU-Secure is designed to require identification within our system with a CBU email. The public cannot connect to it.

What is the difference between EDURoam and CBU-Secure?

EDUroam is a secure, worldwide Wi-Fi network designed for the research and education community. It allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to access the Internet and other network resources at other participating institutions using their home institution's credentials, without needing guest accounts or separate logins. In essence, it's a roaming service that simplifies access to Wi-Fi for those in the education and research fields.

My computer or phone will not connect to the Internet

If you have completed the steps above and your device is still not connecting to the Internet, please try the following options before contacting IT_Services:

  • Ensure you are entering the correct credentials
  • Restart your device.
  • Update your device.
  • Update your wireless drivers.
  • Try reconnecting in 15 minutes.

Can I use a VPN on campus?

No. For security, access to Wi-Fi on campus is restricted to authorized addresses. Devices seen connecting from other countries will be automatically detected as a threat and blocked.
