Updating your PC

Overview 

  • Windows updates can sometimes contain critical operational updates to ensure your device is functioning properly as well protect your device. 

Instructions

  1. Navigate to Settings by right clicking on your Windows Icon and select Settings

  2. From here we want to now select Windows Update

  3. Click Check for updates. This will take some time to search, download and install any updates that are pending.

  4. You may be prompted to restart your PC once the updates have finished installing. If this is the case please allow for all updates to finish installing before rebooting. 
     
  5. We can also check for any driver/firmware updates that relate specifically to our hardware such as touchpad's, sound and wifi cards, etc. To do this we want to select Advanced Options while in the Windows Update menu.

  6. From here we want to choose Optional updates

  7. Check off any of these updates that is pending download. Once all are selected you can click Download & installUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  8. As you can see I have one update that was able to download and install without needing to restart, but the Dell firmware (Very important) requires a reboot. There is no other updates downloading so I can go ahead with the reboot.
